| Your countertop/vanity project: |
Before the start of your stone
project contact a local fabricator. They will come to your
home or project site to measure, create a draft/drawing
and quote your natural stone countertop or bathroom vanity
project.
Amsum & Ash works with nearly 200 fabricators in the
5 neighboring state region. We can usually ship with 24-48
hours upon receipt of a purchase order from your fabricator.
The following information is an example of what is gathered
for most if not all granite countertop estimates:
- Lay-out drawing of countertop surface
- Linear inches of edge profiling
- Linear inches of polished backsplash edging
- Quantity of holes to be drilled
- Quantity of polished/unpolished cutouts
- Edge profiles (to be done with your fabricator – list
of examples are below)
- Full, Demi or Half Bullnose
- Eased or Ogee Edge
- 45degree Bevel
Choosing natural stone for countertops or vanities can
be as simple as picking out your favorite music or as challenging
as picking a shade of paint for a new wall. Some natural
stone colors have limited variation and are able to be selected
from smaller granite samples. Others natural stone colors
you may consider viewing the full slab because of slight
or extreme shade variations within the stone slab.

- How do I care for my stone once I get it home?
Always clean up spills immediately to prevent stains
and spots.
- Use a cleaner rated for natural stone such as Counter
Kleen from Miracle Sealants, or a few drops of a neutral
cleanser diluted in water. Any product that is not pH
balanced can etch or dull the surface.
- Avoid abrasive products such as dry cleansers, scouring
powders of ‘soft’ cleansers.
- Reseal the stone annually to prevent stains and water
spots. Hint: Sprinkle water on the surface; if the water
does not bead it is time to seal again.
- If a stain does occur, there are products available
that can lessen the appearance if not remove the stain
completely. Visit www.miraclesealants.com or www.marble-institute.com
for details on how to remove your own stains, or contact
a professional within the trade for more information.
- Use coasters under all glassware, particularly if it
contains alcohol or citrus.
